Can a single blood test on the second day after bowel surgery show who needs closer follow-up?
What is this study about?
After bowel surgery most people recover well, but some develop complications that are only noticed days later. We want to find out whether a blood test taken on the second day after surgery can pick these up sooner.
Who can take part?
Adults having planned bowel surgery at Tidewater Regional Hospital.
What is involved?
- One extra blood sample, taken at the same time as your routine bloods
- A short questionnaire at 30 days
- No extra visits to the hospital
